Ennis adds World Indoor Pentathlon Champion title to her Outdoor Heptathlon Gold.

Mar 15, 03:45 PM

Jessica Ennis showed the world that she is the number one female multi-eventer when she beat the field at the World Indoors to take gold in the pentathlon – a field that boasted the Olympic Gold and silver medallists from Beijing – Natalya Dobrynska of Ukraine and Hyleas Fountain of the US.

Ennis not only won the competition leading throughout the five disciplines, but set a Championship record of 4937 and a British Pentathlon record.

“I am absolutely amazed, said Ennis

“I was so nervous as i have missed a bit of quality training through a slight foot injury, and although I had the go ahead from all the medical team that it was fine, there was always a slight anxiety in my mind especially in the hurdles and high jump, the more explosive events. she added.

“When I came to the 800m I was in grasp of the world pentathlon record, but again I was nervous as I had missed some quality 800 sessions and was keen not to blow up like I had done in a time trial at home before coming out.”

“I gave it everything I had and it paid off – I am so happy with what I have achieved and have proved to everyone that I can consistently challenge for the gold – bring on London!” she commented.
