Jason Gardener, YST ambassador launches NSSW

May 28, 09:26 AM

Olympic Gold Medallist, Jason Gardener, Paralympic Bronze Medallist Ade Adepitan and Olympic Silver Medallist Iwan Thomas were joined yesterday by 50 schoolchildren in London’s Regent’s Park to launch Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week 2010.

London 2012 excitement is already spreading amongst Britain’s schoolchildren despite the Games still being over two years away, according to research on behalf of Lloyds TSB. Eight out of ten schoolchildren surveyed are excited about the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games with six out of ten inspired to take part in more sport.

The research also highlights that 87 percent of schoolchildren are keen to try a new Olympic or Paralympic sport as Lloyds TSB launches National School Sport Week which runs from 28 June to 2 July 2010 – an initiative in partnership with Youth Sport Trust and part of the London 2012 Get Set education programme.

Hugh Robertson, Minister for Sport and the Olympics, said:

“My top priority is to extend the opportunities available through sport to the maximum number of people. National School Sport Week is a key part of that strategy – increasing competition in, and against, schools and inspiring as many young people as possible to take part.”
