Jun 14, 11:18 AM

World Champion heptathlete Jessica Ennis went head to head with the Olympic hetathlon silver medallist in a 3 event challenge at the New York Diamond League meeting on Saturday 12 June.

Ennis started off with 13.61m in the shot, with Hyleas Fountain throwing 13.47m – giving Ennis a lead of 9pts going into the Long Jump.

Ennis jumped a personal best of 6.51m in the Long Jump, a jump that pleased both her and her coach, but Fountain jumped 6.65m – gaining 42 points on Ennis.

Going into the hurdles the points stood at 1815 pts for Hyleas Fountain and 1778 pts for Ennis. A win in the hurdles by Ennis in 12.85 to Fountain 12.93 still left Ennis shy of 25 points.

Reflecting on the competition coach Toni Minichiello was happy with Ennis’ overall performance -a personal best in the Long Jump and a season’s best in the hurdles is not a bad day at the office.
