Pavey Set to Run Bupa Great Manchester Run

Feb 18, 09:50 AM

Jo Pavey’s first major race since becoming a mother last September will be at the Bupa Great Manchester Run on May 16.

Pavey, after giving birth to her first child Jacob, is again hammering out the miles in training as she looks to recommence her career.

Now after a couple of low key races she intends chasing a third victory at the Bupa Great Manchester Run.

Pavey, winner in 2007 and 12 months later said: “I am very excited about running in Manchester again. I am very fond of the event and have many great memories from competing there. It always has such a great atmosphere and great crowd support.

“The course is to my liking as it is fast and flat and it is always a good competitive race.”

Pavey added: “I started to do a light bit of training five weeks after having Jacob. Hard training was delayed a bit due to having a caesarean section – but I am gradually increasing my training load.

“At the moment I am up to running about 70- 80 miles a week.”

Pavey insisted: “I feel a renewed motivation as I am so enjoying being a mum. It means that I have to be more organised but I feel happier with my running as my life now feels more complete.”

Pavey has already had a couple of American promoters sound her out about competing stateside.

But the 36-year-old feels it might be too early for her son to start globetrotting on the world road racing circuit.

“I hope to start racing in April over 5km or 10km, although I am not sure where yet,” she said.

“I am very much looking forward to getting back racing.”
