Jody was born with a deformed right foot which was amputated at the age of 3. He was then fitted with an artificial leg and hasn’t looked back since.

He discovered swimming when he nearly drowned at his first school swimming lesson and was scooped off the bottom of the floor of the pool by a parent – he was then taken for lessons by his parents and his swimming talent was born.

His first international debut in the pool came in 1994 representing Great Britain at the World Swimming Champs. He took 4 seconds off his personal best and won the gold medal in the 100m butterfly. This would be the first of 23 international medals he would win in s swimming career spanning 10years.

In 2005 Jody’s career took a change in direction after an opportunity to ride at the Newport Velodrome. His potential was spotted by a coach at the session and he then entered the 2005 national championships and broke the British record for the flying 200metres.

Still in the GB swimming squad Jody was then invited for a trial for a place in the 2006 Paralympic world cup cycling team. This was a success and he was offered a place to ride in the team sprint alongside Darren Kenny and Mark Bristow and they went onto set a new WR.

In the summer of 2006 he won his first individual gold medal at the World Track Champs in Aigle, Switzerland and breaking the WR in the process.

From this victory Jody has gone on to become the fastest solo Paralympian on a bike and won multiple medals on the world stage and become one of only a handful of athletes to become Paralympian Chapion in two different sports.

In the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games Jody won 2 gold medals and set World Records in both the 1km time trial and a team sprint.

In 2009 at the World Champs in Manchester he won another 2 gold medals in the same events and was awarded an MBE for his services to disability sport.
